Palma (dpa) – Rettungsschwimmer Marcos Ruiz musste diesen Sommer auf Mallorca erneut mehrfach eingreifen und Urlauber retten, die oft nicht mal wussten, in welch großer Gefahr sie waren. Meist trieb die Strömung die Badegäste ins offene Meer. Manche von ihnen hielten auf Luftmatratzen unbekümmert ein Schläfchen. Diese unvorsichtigen und manchmal auch angetrunkenen Menschen können von Glück sagen, dass Ruiz und Co. die Gefahr meistens rechtzeitig erkennen und reagieren.
Aber ungeachtet aller Erfahrung und Mühe der Strand-«Schutzengel» ertrinken jedes Jahr vor der Küste der spanischen Mittelmeerinsel immer wieder Touristen und Einheimische. Nach einer jüngsten Mitteilung des Spanischen Verbandes der Rettungsschwimmer Aetsas gab es dieses Jahr auf den Balearen bis Ende August 24 tödliche Ertrinkungsunfälle, die Mehrheit davon mit 18 auf Mallorca. Die Rettungsschwimmer haben viel zu tun und protestieren schon seit Langem, um Verbesserungen zu erreichen.
Sie fordern unter anderem, dass die Zeiten der Strandüberwachung in den Abend hinein und auch auf die Monate März und November ausgeweitet werden. Dafür sei mehr Personal nötig, sagen sie. Unterstützung soll zunächst vonseiten der Technik kommen. Um die Zahl der Unglücksfälle zu reduzieren, sollen künftig Drohnen eingesetzt werden.
In der Gemeinde Santanyí im Osten Mallorcas wird ein solches Gerät geprobt: Die Tests werden seit Ende August und noch bis zum 26. September vom Unternehmen General Drones aus Valencia gemacht. Nicht nur bei in Not geratenen Schwimmern könne das Flugobjekt helfen. «Wir können auch Boote filmen, die sich nicht an die Regeln halten. So kann die Polizei später Knöllchen verteilen», sagt Firmenchef Adrián Plazas.
Ruiz begrüßt das Projekt: «Wenn es etwas nützt, nehmen wir es dankend an», sagt er der Deutschen Presse-Agentur. Er äußert aber auch Skepsis. «Einerseits muss man aber auch die Kosten aufwiegen, mit denen man andere Dinge bezahlen könnte. Und andererseits könnte die Technologie versagen. Zu 100 Prozent darauf verlassen möchte ich mich nicht.»
Die Drohnen haben Lautsprecher und Schwimmwesten
Plazas hebt die Vorzüge seiner Drohnen hervor. «Wir können sie bis zu sechs Kilometer weit fliegen lassen. In Absprache mit der Polizei sind wir immer an unterschiedlichen Strandabschnitten», sagt er. Die Drohne verfüge über einen Lautsprecher. «Unser Pilot spricht Spanisch und Englisch. Damit kann er Durchsagen machen. Theoretisch könnten wir auch Aufnahmen in anderen Sprachen abspielen.»
An der Maschine seien außerdem zwei Schwimmwesten angebracht, die im Notfall abgeworfen werden können. Bei den Tests an der Küste von Santanyí sei das bisher nicht nötig gewesen. «In Valencia bieten wir unseren Dienst seit 2017 an. Im vergangenen Jahr kam es zu 16 Abwürfen der Rettungswesten in Extremsituationen», erzählt Plazas.
Eine Familie wurde bei den Tests bei hohem Wellengang gerettet
Die gefährlichste Szene bei den Tests auf der Insel gab es mit einer Familie, die sich bei hohem Wellengang zu nah an einen felsigen Abschnitt der Küste gewagt hatte. «Eine hohe Welle hätte sie ins Meer spülen können. Per Lautsprecher sagten wir ihnen, sie sollen Abstand einhalten.» Generell sei die Drohne ideal für Bereiche, zu denen die Polizei nur schlecht hinkomme.
15.000 Euro lässt sich Santanyí das Pilotprojekt kosten. Andere Gemeinden auf Mallorca hätten ihr Interesse bekundet. Darunter auch die Stadt Palma, die für den Ballermann zuständig ist und angekündigt hat, den Strand «intelligent» machen zu wollen. Neben einer neuen App zur Miete von Sonnenschirmen und -Liegen sollen eine Videoüberwachung und eben auch Drohnen eingeführt werden.
Wie wichtig zudem eine bessere Überwachung der Schifffahrt auf Mallorca ist, zeigte nicht zuletzt der tödliche Unfall an der Cala Bona – wie Santanyí an der Ostküste der Insel. Eine von Deutschen gesteuerte Jacht war nach Erkenntnissen der Behörden viel zu schnell unterwegs und überfuhr ein kleines Fischerboot. Ein 20 Jahre alter mallorquinischer Angler starb dabei. Die Ermittlungen sind im Gange.
Auch die kleinen Boote, die ohne Führerschein ausgeliehen und gefahren werden dürfen, sowie Jetskis verursachen auf Mallorca viel Ärger, da die Regeln oftmals missachtet werden. Viele fahren zu schnell und durch die mit Bojen gekennzeichneten Badezonen, wo sie gar nicht erlaubt sind.
